Why does the separator on digital clocks blink?
As far back as I can remember - All digital clocks have a colon separator that in most cases blinks! Why?

It is basically to help it from 'burning in' on the screen (which makes it dimmer and dimmer over time). It usually blinks every second or two on some clocks/ovens. You will notice over time that cartain digits on a clock will get dimmer after time, especially the parts of a number that show the most..I have a digital clock on an older VCR where the colon does NOT blink...and I can barely see it....
